BERK, BIRK, MERTZ posted by Janet Etheredge on Wednesday, April 4, 2001

My father, Floyd E MERTZ, always told me he thought his father, Wilbert Christian MERTZ, was born in Wabash, Mercer Co, OH. Wilbert was born Octber 1, 1873 to James Davis MERTZ and Anna Catherine (BIRK or BERK) MERTZ. There were two older children, John Ellsworth; born June 7, 1865 and Catharina K; born September 12, 1868. Both John and Katie (as she was known) were born in Mercer Co. (Wabash ?) OH. There were other children born to James Davis and Anna MERTZ as they are listed on their headstone in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lima, OH. According to Woodlawn Cemetery these children were buried elsewhere (Mercer Co.?). The children are: J. Albertus, born 1862 died 1865; Infant 1869; and twins(?) Elmer and Ellen 1876. Does anyone have any information or can help research or give leads? Am willing to share information. Thank you in advance. Janet (nee MERTZ)

FISHER, HOLE, SMITH posted by Missy Wass on Friday, April 6, 2001

My grandmother, Ruth Mae SMITH, had the maiden name HOLE. She was born in Celina, Ohio, on 11/29/19-- (she won't say.) Her father was Jacob Walter HOLE and his wife was Rila V. FISHER. Jacob was born 8/25/1898 in Mercer County, Ohio. My grandmother has Rila born in Celina, Ohio, on 3/6/1900. However, may not be accurate as Rila died when my grandmother was 8, killed in an accident involving a horse-drawn buggy and a train. Rila's father and 6 month old daughter were also killed in the same accident. My grandmother was named for her mother's sister, Ruth Ellen FISHER, who died of flu during WW1. Rila and Jacob had 4 children, Norville HOLE (Living-ST. Mary's, Ohio), Don HOLE (Deceased-198?), Ruth (HOLE) SMITH (Living-Andrews, Indiana) and the baby I mentioned earlier, who's name I don't know. Don and his wife, Lucinda, had 4 children, who still live in the Celina area. Jacob HOLE had 2 brothers, one of whom was named Lynn. Any information on this branch of my! ! family would be very appreciated.

HINES, JENKINS, PEARSON posted by Jan Fetters on Wednesday, June 6, 2001

Seeking burial location for my great grandparents, James W. and Susan (PEARSON) JENKINS. Know that Susan was born in Gibson Twp, Mercer County and died in Gibson Twp. in 1887. James W. died in Wood County, West Virginia in 1894, however he may have been buried near his wife.

Also, looking for sibling info on Sylvester HINES...born about 1864 even tho death cert shows birthdate as 1866. Shows he was born in Mercer County...says his father was John HINES born in Ohio. Know that is a common HINES name, but hoping someone is tracking same line. Thanks in advance.
