1. Find 3 bad and two good Background URLs
The "Good" ones:
-
http://www.scifi.com/bboard/browse.cgi/1/3/952/
-
http://www.calweb.com/~macklinr/jellospace/
The "Bad" ones:
-
http://www.grsites.com/cgi-bin/tiletextbody.cgi?fn=multi017&ext=jpg&dir=multi
-
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Stage/1054/
-

2. Discuss what makes them good or bad
The "Good" Ones:
- Because its seamless background of a black border and Yellow main
body is large enough that it does not tile on my 17" monitor, but well
designed enough to tile well on my 13" monitor. Also the colors used for
links (two shades of purple) are different from each other you can tell
where you have been.
- This background is Blue blended into Black, giving a distinct side
border to the page... with an elegant look though. The images as links,
and the bright red color of the un-imaged links are striking against
the black. The lavendar text is in sharp contrast to the balck
background.
The "Bad" Ones:
- The Brightness of the colors and the sheer number of them
prevent the text to be seen in most cases. Even the black text shows
up poorly on this background.
- The background was not designed well... it tiles a
second time on my screen *and* parts of the side image are
transparent, so the background color (in this case Black)
shows through.
- The background while a white embossed image.. is not entirely
color free. So the two colors of blue text she uses at the top are
clearly visible, and her purple colored links are also visible, the
red text and the teal colored text is swallowed in part by the back
ground image. Also the image has clear tile lines... but I happen to
know this image does not become seamless easily.
