Sacramento Community
Sacramento is the capital of California at the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers. It is a commercial, manufacturing, and transportation center for a productive agricultural region. Government activities, financial institutions, and tourism are all important to the city's economy. Situated between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, it is home to over 400,000 people.
Sacramento is the site of California State University, Sacramento and several junior colleges. Points of interest in our city include the State Capitol, situated in a spacious park; the Crocker Art Museum; Sutter's Fort State Historic Monument, featuring the restored adobe house built in 1839 by the first settlers here; a Native American museum; a railroad museum; the Sacramento Museum; and Old Sacramento, an area restored to the city's appearance between the years 1850 and 1870. Sacramento supports several theaters and is the site of the annual California State Fair. The city is known for its camellias, ornamental shrubs with roseline flowers. The Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association host their home games at ARCO Arena.
