of Osteopathic Medicine. CA
Originally from Taiwan,
I have spent much of my life in northern California. Raised in Fremont, I received my bachelor's degree from
UC Davis. I ended up falling in love with the town and my husband, Chon
Tang, a hedge fund manager. We have two adorable little kids that keep
us fairly entertained and busy. When I do have spare time I like to draw
cartoons of my attendings, cook, read, sew, and be a great mom and wife
to my family. I am ecstatic to be doing my residency at MHS and I look forward to
working with a diverse patient population. I can speak Chinese Mandarin
fluently and I hope to be of great service for the Chinese community.
我会说普通话。需要帮助的请来找我!

I grew up in the
greater bay area, including Portola
Valley, San
Francisco, Vallejo, and Oakland. I have also
lived in Germany, Ohio, and
Uruguay
and look forward to traveling more in the future. For my
undergraduate education, I studied Molecular, Cellular, and
Developmental Biology at UCLA. After graduating from UCLA, I
worked as a Physical Therapy assistant in
San Francisco. I then attended medical school at
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in
Mare Island, California. I now live in East Sacramento with my husband Dr. Hickey, and our dog,
Olive. I am fluent in Spanish and enjoy working with the Latino
patient population. I am also particularly interested in women and
children's health, but gladly welcome all patient populations!

I grew up in
Sacramento and attended the Sacramento
Waldorf School
from kindergarten to 12th grade. I then attended
Sonoma State
for two years where I fell in love with science and subsequently
transferred to UC Davis. Before I entered medical school, I experimented
with being a marine science teacher, and a personal trainer. Ultimately,
though, I chose to become a doctor because I wanted to help people in a
meaningful way and to pursue an intellectually challenging career. My
wife Ingrid and I are very pleased to have matched with Mercy Methodist
and look forward to a rewarding career in Family Medicine!"

Thongphanh (Tom)
Phanthavady, MD |
University of Utah, School of Medicine. UT
"I immigrated to the United States from Laos in 1992 along with my mother
and brother. My dad was not able to come with us at that time and my two
older brothers had to immigrate to
France.
We settled in
Boise, Idaho...it
was quite a change coming from a tropical climate!
I went to college right outside of Boise, Albertson College
of Idaho. During my time in high
school and college, I started my landscaping business and spent time
with my lifelong mentor (Dr. Michael O’Brien) in his free clinic where I
started to develop my passion for medicine and caring for the
underserved.
I was grateful
for the opportunity to attend the University of Utah School of Medicine
where I further developed my passion and met some amazing life-long
friends.
After so many years
spent in the snowy winter of Utah
and Idaho, I decided to try out the
sunny weather of California.
I fortunately discovered Mercy/Methodist Family Residency in
Sacramento
as a place where I can further learn/develop/grow as a compassionate and
competent physician.
I’m
looking forward to it!
On a
different note…outside of medicine…I enjoy spending time with family and
friends, food (both cooking and eating), playing,
traveling/exploring/learning, being outdoors, and just relaxing (i.e.
sleeping)!"

of Health Sciences,College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific.
CA
I was born and raised in the Bay Area and attended UC Berkeley, where I
graduated with a B.A in Cognitive Science. I moved to Southern CA for medical
school where I attended Western University of Health Sciences and then moved
to NY for one year to complete an Osteopathic internship. Family Medicine
appeals to me because of its broad and diverse scope. I am especially
interested in global health and serving underserved populations. I have
participated in several medical missions abroad, and hope to be able to
continue to do so in residency and in the future. I love to travel, read, cook
and to pretend that I am a photographer! I also enjoy studying languages and
currently am trying to learn Spanish.
