I started square dancing in 1968 at the age of 12. By 1969 I was
attending square dance hoedowns as often as I could and the Starlite
Shufflers hosted some of the dances that I attended. I remember
their caller, Ivan Hasbrouck from these dances but I remember
him more as a pillar in the local caller's association that I
later joined. I don't remember the years but I did attend a couple
of their "Hoot Owl" dances. These featured all night
dancing with breakfast served early the next morning.
I could not even imagine that some 30 years later I would be
their club caller!
The club formed in 1957 (which makes it just a year younger than
I am) and there are still very active charter members.
Late News
The Starlight Shufflers have decided to cease dancing
at the end of 2009. They will continue their normal schedule through
December.
