Connection Instructions

| IMPORTANT!
Please verify that the number you are using is a local
access number and is entered correctly. (This can be done by
checking with the operator or a recent copy of the white
pages.) While we will suggest the best possible possible
access number, CalWeb Internet Services is not
responsible for any toll or phone charges incurred while
using our service. |
| Internet
Setup Assistant for Mac 8.x and 9.x |
| NOTE: Minor
changes have occurred in the Internet Setup Assistant
between releases of the Mac OS. Please be aware that there
may be minor differences between what you see on the screen
and what is presented below.
1. Start the Internet
Setup Assistant. In all likelihood, it is located on the
Mac HD in the Internet folder. If necessary,
click on File, then Find, then type in internet
setup assist (or something to that effect). Once you
have located the application, double-click on it.
2. You are presented with an introduction screen. Click Update.
3. You will see a window describing what info you'll need to
proceed. Click on the Blue Arrow that's pointing to the
right.
4. Make sure Add Internet Configuration is dotted and
click arrow pointing right.
5. Name the connection CalWeb and make sure Modem is
selected. Click arrow pointing right.
6. Select the name of the modem you are using. Make sure
port is set to Modem Port, and that tone is selected.
Click arrow pointing right.
7. Enter the CalWeb dial-up access number that is a local
call for you exactly as it is supposed to be dialed. Click
arrow pointing right.
8. Enter your username (also known as your userid).
It is your login name (i.e. joeuser), and must be all
lowercase.
9. Enter the password you gave us when you signed up and
click on the arrow pointing right. (Note: Passwords are case
sensitive)
10. Select No for "IP Address for this
configuration" and click on arrow pointing right.
11. Type in the following DNS numbers: 209.128.208.10
and 209.128.208.11
12. Type calweb.com for the domain name and click on
the arrow pointing right.
13. Type in your e-mail address as userid@calweb.com
(i.e. joeuser@calweb.com). Optionally, you may enter your
password here so the program will remember it. Click arrow
pointed right.
14. Type in userid@pop.calweb.com as the e-mail
account. Type smtp.calweb.com as the e-mail host for
this configuration. Click arrow pointed right.
15. Type news.calweb.com as the news group host and
click on the arrow pointed right.
16. If you want to test out your configuration, make sure
that "Connect when finished" is checked. Make sure
that a phone line is hooked up and click Go Ahead to
save your configuration and dial into CalWeb.
17. Click Go Ahead if you have a phone line connected
to your computer and you are not on it.
Verifying
Settings
TCP/IP Settings
1. Click on Apple -> Control Panels -> TCP/IP
2. Your screen should say the following:
- Connect via: PPP
- Configure: Using
PPP Server
- Name server
addr: 209.128.208.10 and 209.128.208.11
3. Close the
window.
Dial-Up Access
Number
1. Click on Apple -> Control Panels -> Remote
Access (This may also be called PPP)
2. Phone number should be listed exactly as it should be
dialed. If necessary, correct it.
3. When closing the Remote Access window, save the changes.
Common
Issues
Redial
1. Click on Apple -> Control Panels -> Remote
Access (This may also be called PPP)
2. Click on Options button.
3. Click on Redialing tab. Select either
"Off" or "Redial main number only".
4. Click OK.
Not
automatically dialing
1. Click on Apple -> Control Panels -> Remote
Access (This may also be called PPP)
2. Click on Options button.
3. Click on Connection tab. Make sure "Connect
automatically when starting TCP/IP application" is
checked.
4. Click OK.

For Macintosh OS X-Dial Up |
1. Click on Apple
and select System Preferences.
2. Once the System Preferences window loads, click on Network
to load the network preferences.
3. In the Network Preferences pane, set location to Automatic
and Show to Internal Modem.
4. Click on the TCP/IP tab. Make sure that the
following is set:
- Configure: Using
PPP
- Domain Name
Servers: 209.128.208.10 and 209.128.208.11
- Search Domains:
calweb.com
5. Click on the PPP
tab. Make sure that the following is set:
- Service
Provider: CalWeb
- Telephone
Number: Your local CalWeb access number exactly as it
should be dialed.
- Alternate
Number: Leave blank
- Account Name:
Enter your username (also known as your userid). It is
your login name (i.e. joeuser),
and must be all lowercase.
- Password: Enter
the password you gave us when you signed up. (Note:
Passwords are case sensitive)
6. While in the PPP
tab, click on PPP Options. Make sure the following is
checked:
- Connect
automatically when starting TCP/IP applications
should be checked. This will automatically connect you
to CalWeb when you start up an Internet program. If you
do not check this off, you will have to connect
manually.
- Use TCP
header compression should be checked.
Click OK to
exist this screen.
7. Click on the Proxies tab. CalWeb does not use any
proxy servers so nothing should be checked on this screen.
8. Click on the Modem tab. The modem should be set to
Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.90). If you have
difficulties in connecting, try switching the modem to Apple
Internal 56K Modem (v.34). Make sure that Enable
error correction and compression in modem is checked and
that Tone is dotted.
9. Click on Apply Now to save the changes, then close
the window.
Connecting
Manually
If you do not have "Connect automatically when
starting TCP/IP applications" checked, then follow
these steps in order to connect to CalWeb.
1. Double-click on
the hard drive icon on your desktop.
2. Double-click on the Applications folder.
3. Double-click on the Internet Connect icon.
4. If you want to be able to connect from the menu bar, then
check off Show modem status in menu bar.
5. Click on the Connect button to connect.
The modem status
menubar is on the right side of the menubar at the top of
the screen. It looks like a telephone handset with three
gray dots pointing diagonally away from the handset. To
connect using this menu, click on the menu, and then select Connect.

for Macintosh OS X-PPPoE DSL Access |
1. From the Apple
menu, choose System Preferences.
2. Click the Network icon.
3. Click the arrow box on the Show pop-up list and
choose Built-in Ethernet.
4. Click on the PPPoE tab.
- Check the box
next to Connect using PPPoE.
- In the Account
Name field, type your CalWeb email address (i.e. joeuser@calweb.com).
- In the Password
field, type your password.
- Check the box
next to Save password.
- Check the box
next to Show PPPoE status in menu bar.
5. Click the PPPoE
Options button.
- Check the box
next to Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP
applications.
- Uncheck the box
next to Prompt to stay connected if idle for X
minutes.
- Uncheck the box
next to Disconnect if idle for X minutes.
- Check the box
next to Disconnect when user logs out.
Click the OK
button.
6. Click on the TCP/IP
tab.
- Click the arrow
box on the Configure pop-up list and choose Using
PPP.
- In the Domain
Name Servers box, type in 209.128.208.10 and 209.128.208.11.
- In the Search
Domains box, type calweb.com .
Click the Apply
Now button.
7. Close the Network
window.
8. From the Apple menu, choose Restart.
Your computer is
now configured to use Airport using a DSL connection with
PPPoE.

for Macintosh OS X-AirPort Access |
1. From the Apple
menu, click Control Panels, and choose TCP/IP.
2. Select AirPort in the Connect via list.
3. Select Using DHCP Server in the Configure
list.
4. Leave the DHCP Client ID field blank.
5. From the File menu, choose Quit.
6. Click the Save button.
Your computer is
now configured to use Airport with DSL.
