• The SpeedWeb software doesn't seem to be working.

• The number used to dial into CalWeb using SpeedWeb must end in a -1856. If you dialing in using a access number ending in -9321, -9322, or -1855, then SpeedWeb service will be unavailable. To locate the number, check our list for Sacramento-area , San-Francisco/Oakland/San Jose , Los Angeles , or statewide access numbers. Once you determined the proper number,  click here for instructions on changing your phone number .
• Check to see if your username and password is entered correctly in the SpeedWeb software. Right-click on the SlipStream Web Accelerator taskbar icon and select Settings from the menu. Click on the Connection tab. Enter your username (i.e. joeuser, no "@calweb.com) and password in the fields provided. To avoid having to do this each time you connect, ensure that the Save password box is checked. To save your settings, press OK.
• Disable your firewall. If SpeedWeb then works, then check your firewall settings. The incoming port of 7000 and the outgoing point of 5400 must be enabled.
• Speedweb is designed to work with Internet Explorer 4 or later or Netscape 4 or later without any modification. If you are using MyIE2 , you will needs to click on Options, then Proxy, then Use IE Proxy. For other browsers such as Opera and Mozilla, SlipStream Web Accelerator works with any web browser that allows you to specify an HTTP proxy. You must set the HTTP proxy host to be 127.0.0.1 and the port number to be the local listening port of the SlipStream Client (5400 by default). Consult your browser's documentation for information on how this can be done.
• The service may not be active on your account. You must use the on-line signup form to activate the service , and while the process is automated, it takes around 15 minutes for the service to be activated.

• In most cases, you can access the Internet Options by right-clicking on the Internet Explorer icon and selecting Properties. If you are using Windows 95, 98, Me, or 2000, you can also access the Internet Options by clicking on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel, then double-clicking on the Internet Options icon.
• Click on the Connections tab.
• Select the CalWeb connection and click on Settings button. The settings button is located to the right of the connections box.
• Verify that no check boxes are checked on this screen. In addition, the user name is your CalWeb login name in all lowercase and has no @calweb.com on it, your password is entered, and the domain box is blank. Click OK.
  Note: On Windows 2000 and XP systems, the number of dots is longer than your actual CalWeb password. This is a security feature to prevent someone from guessing your password based upon the number of dots.
• Click on LAN Settings button.
• Verify that nothing is checked on this screen.
• Click OK, then OK again. Close out the Control Panel.

However, strange interactions between Internet Explorer and certain plugins (such as older versions of the Adobe Acrobat Reader plugin) may cause documents to be unnecessarily downloaded twice. It is important to note that this type of behavior occurs regardless of whether SlipStream Web Accelerator is used. The Accelerator is merely showing the download statistics in these situations.

Another alternative is to manually set the HTTP proxy in Netscape. Click on Edit and select Preferences. Open up the Advanced menu and select Proxies. Set the HTTP proxy host to be 127.0.0.1 and the port number to be the local listening port of the SpeedWeb Client (5400 by default). Click OK.

You can always add the website to the Proxy Exclusion List to bypass the Accelerator.
