This section will assist you with the installation of SpeedWeb for the Macintosh and the features of the accelerator.

SpeedWeb Requirements
The minimum system requirements are a PowerPC G3 processor at 333MHz with 128MB RAM and 6MB of hard drive space. SpeedWeb works with OS X 10.2 or later and Safari 1.0 or later. Previous versions of the Macintosh operating system (OS 8, OS 9) are not supported.
Installing The Software
To set up SpeedWeb for the Macintosh, follow these instructions:

1. Sign up for SpeedWeb service .
2. Download the SpeedWeb software to your computer. It should automatically decompress and mount itself.
3. After downloading the SpeedWeb software, you should see an icon as shown below in the installer volume. Double-click on the icon to install SpeedWeb.

4. Change the phone number from the one you use normally used to connect to CalWeb to a number that ends in -1856 . You can also create a new dial-up connection for CalWeb.
5. Connect to CalWeb using the Speedweb number. As this is your first time launching the product, you will be prompted for a username and password. Enter the username (i.e.
joeuser, no @calweb.com) and password you use to connect to CalWeb in the fields provided. (See example below)
User Information
Click Save and Continue. SpeedWeb will connect to CalWeb. After installing the SpeedWeb Web Accelerator, an icon as shown below is placed in your system tray.

6. Browse the Web as you normally. When finished, simply close your browser as you normally would, and SpeedWeb will remain idle in your system tray.

If you want to stop the application after browsing select Stop SlipStream Web Accelerator from the application menu, or if you desire to exit the application completely, click Quit from the pop-up menu.

Launching SpeedWeb
If the SpeedWeb Web Accelerator is not running and you need to launch it manually, locate the SpeedWeb Web Accelerator icon in the Applications folder and double-click it.
Setting Username and Password
Your username and password information is located in the Connection Status dialog. To set your username and password:

1. Click on the Speedweb Web Accelerator dock icon.
2. Click on the Connection tab.
3. Enter the username (i.e.
joeuser, no @calweb.com) and password you use to connect to CalWeb in the fields provided. To avoid having to do this each time you connect, ensure that the Save password box is checked.
4. To save your settings, press Apply.

Changing Image Quality Settings
The image quality setting changes the quality of images that appear in your SpeedWeb Web Accelerator. The higher the quality you select, the longer it will take to load. For slower Internet connections, it is recommended that you lower your image quality. This slider can be adjusted anytime while browsing.

1. Click on the SlipStream Web Accelerator dock icon.
2. Select the Image Quality tab.
3. Use the slider bar to adjust the image quality setting.
4. Press Apply to save the settings.

Starting and Stopping
To Stop
If you are connected and you want to manually disconnect, click on the SpeedWeb Web Accelerator dock icon. Select the menu item Stop SlipStream from the application menu-bar.

To Start
If SlipStream Web Accelerator is stopped and you want to manually start, click on the SpeedWeb Web Accelerator dock icon. Select the menu item Start SlipStream from the application menu-bar.

Changing Your Connection Settings
Normally, the connection settings that are set during installation do not need to be changed. If, however, you need to change the settings, you may change the preset ones using the Settings dialog.

1. Click on the SpeedWeb Web Accelerator dock icon.
2. Click on the Connection tab.
3. Press the Advanced... button.
4. Change the Remote Server Hostname and Server Port to the ones your CalWeb provided you. In most cases, it is unnecessary to change the Local Port.
5. Press OK to close the Connection dialog box.
6. Press Apply to save your new connection settings. These settings will be used next time you connect with the SpeedWeb Web Accelerator.

Accessing Product Version Information
You may view the product version in the About dialog by clicking on the SlipStream Web Accelerator dock icon and selecting About SlipStream Web Accelerator from the application menubar.
Uninstalling SpeedWeb
To uninstall the SpeedWeb Web Accelerator:

1. Quit the SpeedWb Web Accelerator.
2. Launch the finder and browse to the Applications folder.
3. Drag the accelerator icon to the trash can.

Uninstalling the SpeedWeb software does not automatically deactivate your SpeedWeb service with CalWeb. You will need to contact our technical support to have the SpeedWeb service disabled from your account. Deactivations of the SpeedWeb service take place at the end of the calendar month.
